BY ROBIN PHILLIPS
Berks County Correspondent
LEESPORT - Berks County 4-
Her’s, parents, and leaders
gathered at the 4-H Community
Center Nov. 10th for the annual
Berks County 4-H Recognition
Night. From the “thank you” on
the program to the many “thank
you’s” during the evening, leaders,
volunteering parents, outstanding
members, and friends of 4-H were
all recognized and applauded.
The special recognition of the
evening was the coveted Friend of
Berks County award of the clover.
Initiated in 1982 to recognize and
honor people in the community
who have helped county 4-H’ers or
the entire 4-H program, the clover
award was presented to Darvin
Boyd, vice president and director
of finance with Hamilton Bank.
Boyd, through Hamilton Bank,
has helped to sponsor many 4-H
activities and special events
throughout the past several years.
A Lancaster County native, Boyd
has been involved with 4-H his
entire life.
“4-H is the greatest
organization,” Boyd said after
accepting his award. The clover
plaque was presented to him by
Rick Kauffman, 4-H extension
agent, and John Falter, urban 4-H
director.
Falter also presented the 4-H
Urban Leadership award to Don
Hartman of Reading, for his un
selfish service in bringing 4-H to
children in the city. Falter was
instrumental in helping many city
children meet the country through
4-H. Hartman assisted with the
outdoor environmental program
and the fishing rodeos, and brought
many donations to the 4-H
programs.
The “I Dare You” leadership
award was presented to Kelly
