A26-UncMttr Farming, Saturday, Novembar 15,1986 Berks County 4-H’ers Honor Darvin Boyd For Service BY ROBIN PHILLIPS Berks County Correspondent LEESPORT - Berks County 4- Her’s, parents, and leaders gathered at the 4-H Community Center Nov. 10th for the annual Berks County 4-H Recognition Night. From the “thank you” on the program to the many “thank you’s” during the evening, leaders, volunteering parents, outstanding members, and friends of 4-H were all recognized and applauded. The special recognition of the evening was the coveted Friend of Berks County award of the clover. Initiated in 1982 to recognize and honor people in the community who have helped county 4-H’ers or the entire 4-H program, the clover award was presented to Darvin Boyd, vice president and director of finance with Hamilton Bank. Boyd, through Hamilton Bank, has helped to sponsor many 4-H activities and special events throughout the past several years. A Lancaster County native, Boyd has been involved with 4-H his entire life. “4-H is the greatest organization,” Boyd said after accepting his award. The clover plaque was presented to him by Rick Kauffman, 4-H extension agent, and John Falter, urban 4-H director. Falter also presented the 4-H Urban Leadership award to Don Hartman of Reading, for his un selfish service in bringing 4-H to children in the city. Falter was instrumental in helping many city children meet the country through 4-H. Hartman assisted with the outdoor environmental program and the fishing rodeos, and brought many donations to the 4-H programs. The “I Dare You” leadership award was presented to Kelly Lebanon 4-H Horse Club Members Receive Recognition LEBANON Members of Lebanon County’s 4-H Horse Clubs received awards and recognition Nov. 3 at the county’s 4-H Horse Clubs Banquet. Among those honored were members of the 4-H horse bowl team which placed fifth at state achievement days. Team mem bers are Marion Christian, Robert Kain, Jr., Niki Nye and Leslie Strauss. Junior team members Rachael Bashore, Michelle Donmoyer, Rodney Meyer and Michelle Slaybaugh received certificates for their participation in regional 4-H night. Members of the 4-H horse judging team were recognized for their sixth place position at state achievement days. Team mem bers are Jennifer Daullary, Stacey Homey and Sheri Pierce. Regional horse judging par ticipants Mary Ann Clark and Charity Farrell received cer tificates. Scott helped the fledgling club get off to a good start that led to hosting several large shows and many exhibits throughout the county. Greg Strieker, Bernville, selected 1986 Reading Fair Out standing 4-H Boy earlier this year, was honored for his service to the 4-H Development Board. Also recognized for service on the board was Roseanne Rarick, Reading. “They have given lots of help and guidance,” Rick Kauffman said as he presented the awards. Chris States, Berks County extension agent, recognized the State 4-H Achievement Days winners. Among the winners was the Berks County dairy judging team that had placed first in Pennsylvania at achievement days. Performance class participants are: Jennifer Daullary, Jennifer Dawson, Kirsten Gross, Stacey Homey, Robert Kain, Jr. and Sheri Pierce. The Equestrians club named Sheri Pierce outstanding member; Stacey Homey, most improved member; Leslie Strauss, best demonstration; Jennifer Miller, junior trail ride; and Ann Lan sberry, senior trail ride. The Hoof and Homs Club presented attendance awards to Jonathan Bixler, Sara Yorty, Teresa Jeffries, Niki Nye, Robert Kain, Jr. and Michelle Slaybaugh. The club also honored Sara Yorty, most unproved member; Robert Kain, Jr., outstanding member; Michelle Slaybaugh, best demonstration; Karen Hoffman, junior trail ride award; Niki Nye, senior trail ride award, Linda and Woody Slaubaugh, outstanding parents; and Marian Christian, sportsmanship award. Kelly Blouch, Michelle Beck and Clint Beck, all members of the Saddle Lites Club, received perfect attendance awards for 1986. Charity Farrell was honored for perfect attendance in 1985 and 1986. Other Saddle Lites Club members' honored were Dawn Bragg, most unproved member; Charity Farrell, outstanding member; and Charity Farrell, Melanie Shenk, Michelle Beck, grooming and showmanship. Donald and Pat Blouch were honored as outstanding parents. Julie Radwanski received the sportsmanship award.
