Harmann noted as he looks for

Louisville contest.
Grand and reserve grand
champion ewes titles went to a pair
of yearlings owned by Laurel
Farms.
Laurel Farms bought the
champion ewe at the Midwest Sale
in June. She placed as the supreme
ewe of that show, Harmann said.
The first-year exhibitors plan to
show the ewe at Louisville before
returning her to their 100-head
brood ewe flock, Harmann added.
This pair of ewes earned first

as helping Laurel Farms claim

Locke said following show. His
Suffolk had been named reserve
champion at Coshton, Ohio earlier
in the season.
Locke, the 17-year-old son of
Leon and Karen Locke, also had
the champion Columbia at
Keystone this year. His parents
have about 300 breeding ewes on
their farm in Ohio.
The reserve championship went
to Robert Dinsmore of Jefferson,
Md. and his 114-pound Hampshire
wether. Dinsmore also owned the
champion pen of three, topping a
pen owned by Margaret Herr of

Stumbo, who has been raising
Columbias for seven years, was

This is the last show for her

Bob and Suzie Leib of
Mechanicsburg pick and show the
sheep for the Valley Lamb and
Wool Company. This year marks
the end of their 4-year handlers
contract with the Middletown
company and the year they showed
the champion ram and ewe for the
company.
The champion ram was a Sep
tember, 1985 ram lamb making his
debut and exit in the winner’s
circle, Suzie Leib explained. The
ram will now be used for breeding
purposes, she said.
A homebred yearling ewe topped
the show for the Middletown
company owned by the Walker
family. The family hopes to show
offspring from the champion ewe
on next year’s show circuit, Suzie
noted.
Premier exhibitor honors went
the Valley Lamb and Wool Com
pany. They topped eight classes
enroute to this title.

Champion ram honors of the
breed went to a fall ram lamb
owned by Margrit and Albrecht
Pichler of Red Hook, N.Y. In
earlier contests the lamb stood
second to his twin brother.
Born prematurely, “Someone
pushed the button and they started
growing. They are now the biggest
of the bunch,” Margrit said.
The Pichler family also won the
grand champion ewe title with
their yearling ewe. They pur
chased the champion this spring
based on her fleece value from
Joan and Charles Hess of Ohio.

growing noticeably.
The champion ewe is out of the
same sire, a Hodgson ram from
Colorado. Judge Guenther
described the spring lamb as the
flashiest ewe lamb here today,
Powell noted.
Moore’s string also took first
yearling ewe honors and premier
exhibitor honors.
The champion ewe placed as
first spring lamb of the New York
State Show in an earlier outing.
Judge Guenther described her as
the flashiest ewe here today,
Powell said.
Moore also owned the reserve
grand champion ewe and closed
the show by winning the premier
