Merinos Champion ram honors of the breed went to a fall ram lamb owned by Margrit and Albrecht Pichler of Red Hook, N.Y. In earlier contests the lamb stood second to his twin brother. Born prematurely, “Someone pushed the button and they started growing. They are now the biggest of the bunch,” Margrit said. The Pichler family also won the grand champion ewe title with their yearling ewe. They pur chased the champion this spring based on her fleece value from Joan and Charles Hess of Ohio.
