Correspondent CHAMBERSBURG - Despite a steady downpour which diminished the ringside crowd, the showing of the Franklin County Fair was filled for the Colored Breed Show held here Aug. 21. Wayne Stiles, Westminster, Md. served as judge for the parade of Brown Swiss, Jersey and Guernsey entries. In the Jersey competition, Pleasant Valley Jerseys, the Lester Martin Family, Cham bersburg, swept the show by winning all but two of the in dividual classes and all of the group classes. They also netted three of the four champion trophies in both the open show and the youth show. For grand champion of the open show Stiles went to the winning aged cow, Top-O-Hill Milestone Faithful, exhibited by Doug Martin. Stiles granted this perennial show winner height and width of rear udder attachment over the reserve grand champion, Merry Moan Alisia, a 5-year-old cow shown by Denise Martin. Alisia returned to the ring to pick-up the rosette for grand champion of the youth show. Cowdale Samsonite Delight, the second-place 5-year-old cow, was selected as the reserve grand champion. Delight was exhibited by Tina Martin. In the heifer competition, Martin’s winning Senior Yearlilng by IMP Itaskas Fillpail Dazzler, was named junior champion of the open show. Erick Horst’s winning senior calf by A-Nine Top brass was chosen reserve junior champion of the open show and junior champion of the youth show. The Guernsey Show enjoyed one of its largest turn outs in recent years with quality matching the increased numbers shown. The Seth Schnebly Family, Gear Spring, Md., captured the most wins and exhibited all but one of the open show champions. For grand champion of the open show, Stiles went to his best ud dered cow of the show, a 3 year old, Crown Stone Tex Nancy. He granted her sharpness over the withers and quality of udder over the first-place aged cow, Crown Stone Goliath Haven, the reserve grand champion also shown by the Seth Schnebly Family. In the youth show, the grand champion trophy was won by Dale Mummert, Chambersburg, with a 4-year-old cow by Western Glow Wistar Premier. Reserve grand champion of the youth show was Lone Pine Top Penny, a dry cow, exhibited by Nancy Myers, Chambersburg. Stiles went with the winning senior calf, Walnut Lane BT Bitty, shown by Rodney and Darlene Stuff, Mercersburg, for junior champion of the open show. He granted her more depth of body and smoother blending of parts than the Schnebly’s senior yearling, Crown Stone Jupiter Orchid, who was pinned the reserve junior champion. Brian Schnebly, the third generation of the family to be in tiie ring that day, picked up the junior champion ribbon in the youth division. Reserve junior champion of the youth show was Lone Pine Friday’s Amanda, shown by Arnold Myers, Cham bersburg. It was once again a family affair in the Brown Swiss Show with Patty, Jennifer and William Gloss winning all but two of the classes in the show. Franklin County Dairy Princess Tina Geeseman distributed ribbons classes were won by brothers Ivan and Alan Meyers, Greencastle, who claimed the grand and reserve grand champions of both shows. Paula JA Burton Beverly, the winning aged cow and best udder of the show, won both grand champion titles for Alan Meyers. Ivan Meyers captured both reserve champion titles with his winning 3 year old, Tidy Brook S. Improver Beth. The Gloss Family won both the open and youth show junior and reserve junior cham pion awards Gass winners of the show follow.
