LEBANON A record-setting
market hog bid and an all-new
carcass lamb and hog show and
sale were among the highlights of
this year’s Lebanon Fair.
At the fair’s livestock sale on
August 1, Hatfield Packing
Company’s Jerry Clemens made
Lebanon Fair history by offering a
record $7.75 for Shelby Heagy’s
grand champion hog. The total tab
for the top porker came to $1,860.
Daryl Grumbine’s reserve
champion went to Peoples
National Bank for $3.75.
The sale’s second highest selling
animal was Kathy Bomgardner’s
grand champion steer that went to
Dutchway of Myerstown for
$1,182.50, or $l.lO per pound. Not
far behind was Lebanon Valley
National Bank, with a bid of 95
cents for the reserve champion
shown by Leigh Hitz.
Peoples National Bank went
home with Melanie Bow’s grand
champion market lamb after
topping the bidding at $3.90 per
pound. Heather Emrich’s reserve
champion went to Willie the
Butcher for $1.55.
The sale’s 93 hogs were the big
breadwinners, chalking up total
receipts of $27,148, for a per-pound
average of $1.32. The event’s 10
steers averaged 79 cents per pound
for a sale total of $8,120, and 29
market lambs sold for $1.29 per
pound for a total of $3,759.
This was the kickoff year for the
fair’s carcass lamb and hog show.
“We put all the pieces together to
make it more of a realistic ap
proach to producing livestock,”
said Lebanon extension livestock

yield grade, average daily gain Daryl Grumbine’s champioi
and structure. carcass lamb igained .65 pound
Of the 21 entries in the hog per day, had a carcass yield of 45.1
competition, Eric Hoover’s came percent, a loineye area of 2,i
out on top. Hoover’s pig gained 2.61 square inches and .12 inches ol
