KUTZTOWN - “You have an
excellent show out here today,”
stated Norman Hill as he was
judging the Eastern Pennsylvania
Championship Holstein Show in
Kutztown last Saturday. Although
the number of entries were down
from previous years, the beautiful
sunny day featured some of the
finest cattle of the Holstein breed.
For the fourth consecutive year,
the grand championship was
captured by Rothrock Golden
Holsteins, Kempton. Their entry,
Yarrabee Simon Elissa, a dry 2
year old, is due in one week to
Walk Chief Mark. Sired by Har
mony Comers Simon, the stylish
young cow boasts a first record of
20,690 pounds of milk with a 4.0
percent test and 833 pounds of fat
in 353 days at 1 year and 9 months
of age.
She was named All-lowa Junior 2
Year Old in 1985 and is currently
scored VG-87. Her dam, Yarrabee
Starcraft Ellie has a 4-year-old
record of 22,130 milk, 4.2 percent
test and 919 fat in 365 days. The
champion was bred by Maynard
Lang and sons.
Rothrock’s Golden Holstein
Farm also went home with the
junior championship rosettes.
Their intermediate yearling entry,
Walk-Up Valiant Lou-Anna-ET,
caught the judge’s eye for this
championship spot. Sired by S-W-D
Valiant, the junior champion
boasts an Excellent, 3E-94, All-
American dam with records over
24,500 milk and 4.2 percent test.
She also has a full sister scored
EX-92 with records over 33,400
milk and a 4.6 percent test. She
was bred by Teresa Myers.

According to Bill Nichols of the
Pennsylvania Holstein
Association, the championship
show provided a perfect setting for
a Brazilian delegation attending
the festivities in Kutztown this past
week. Looking for premier
Holsteins, the delegation hopes to
, purchase a total of 500 head with
400 already selected. “They’re
looking for triple plus sires, dams
with 18,000 plus, and Very Good to
Excellent dams,” Nichols related.
The Eastern Pennsylvania
Championship Show provided
Pennsylvania breeders the best
opportunity to show their finest to
the delegation.
