The com is tall and cuts off my view of everything but my own yard and the meadow below. In the morning the sun causes the Conestoga River to sparkle as our 17 geese swim by in a long line. Up until this year they did not reproduce but now suddenly the five have really multiplied. Many times when I go into my garden to pick another watermelon or cantaloupe I see that another plant needs pruning. The trumpet vine on my outside kitchen wall continually covers the window. It grows as rapidly as the white mulberry shoots that cover another window. We certainly don’t lack for shade as our yard is surrounded by 20 big shade trees and many smaller ones. Of course, this means that wind storms give me lots of limbs to pick up. Hunterdon Co, 4-H’ers Win Sheep Awards HUNTERDON COUNTY, N. J. - A Columbia ewe lamb shown by Lisa Zachmann of Flemington was named champion purebred ewe at the sheep show held in conjunction with the 4-H Achievement Fair here July 31. The reserve champion ewe was an aged Suffolk ewe exhibited by Ron Torok of Pittstown. The champion grade ewe of the show was an Oxford Cotswold cross yearling ewe shown by Heidi Rodenberger of Pittstown. Ron Torok exhibited the reserve champion grade ewe, a Suffolk cross lamb. The best first year trophy went to Kelli Rathyen of Hampton and &kgmce Even though we eat one or two desserts with every meal, it seems that we can’t keep up with my cooking and baking. I’ve cut many recipes in half as just now we have only two at the table. Cookies are one of the easiest things to store as I can freeze them in small con tainers. Sometimes my puddings take a while to finish because we have a lot of fresh fruit to eat too. And, I’d better dig some more of my 200 feet of potatoes as the grandchildren are coming on Saturday. I’m wondering if they like french fries as much as their grandfather does. My Red Pontiac potatoes are so pretty when I cook them in their jackets. Since Kortlynd will be two years old on the day that he stays with me, I’d better bake a big birthday cake. See, more sweets to eat. the runner-up was Charlie Zach mann of Flemington. In the experienced showman class, first place trophy was awarded to Heidi Rodenberger of Pittstown; runner-up was Mary Jean Ercolino of Asbury. Other members receiving blue or red ribbons for their animals were Peter Zachmann, Danielle Riccioni, Elizabeth Ann Beaugard, all of Flemington; Darren Kesty, Hampton; Ah Lord, Pittstown; Shawn Reynolds, Ringoes; Jeff Holman, Readington; and Theresa Haythom, Lebanon. Judge for the show was Clarence Fennimore of Wrightstown, Burlington County 4-H Sheep Club leader.
