These sales were held in Vermont, Ohio and Wisconsin. The top prices at the sales ranged from $159,000 to $1,325. Here is a brief look at the results of these sales. JERSEY The STROH JERSEY FARM DISPERSAL, held in Ohio, averaged $648 on 88 head. Topping the sale was a 5-year-old daughter of Quicksilver Magic of Ogston. Her top record is 18,739 pounds of milk and 650 pounds of fat. Second high of the sale was a Favorite Saint daughter. Selling for $1,275, this 3-year old in progress record, at 117 days, is 5,000 pounds of milk and 198 pounds of fat. Wayne Sliker managed the sale and Tim Eiting handled the auc tioneering duties. HOLSTEIN The SECOND LYLEHAVEN ALL STAR SALE, held in Ver mont, averaged $19,000 on 55 head. The highest bid of the day was $230,000 on a Valiant daughter. Farmers must base such decisions on experience and knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of each animal.” Haenlein says the skills to do this are gained through years of working with cattle, training in schools, 4-H and FFA projects, and breed association and extension programs, including workshops such as the upcoming one.
