THURMONT, Md. - The Maryland-Delaware Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders Association is composed of 40 adult members and 15 junior members. The main objective of the club is to promote the Brown Swiss breed of Cattle. Each year the club sponsors a calf sale to make animals available for 4-H and FFA projects. Upcoming events for the club include a picnic on July 19 at Flemings farm, Hollywood. The Maryland Canton show will be held on July 26 at the Frederick Fairgrounds, Frederick. Later in the year they will hold their annual banquet and meeting. This is set for November 25. Officers for the association in clude: George L. Bassler, president; Webber Bell, vice president; Madeline Valentine, secretary; and Robert Sigler Jr., BERLIN This summer, on July 25, Somerset County Holstein Club will be hosting their annual Somerset County Fiesta, a fun evening for the members of the club. It will be held at the Berlin Community Grove. Two days prior to the Fiesta, on July 23, the club will host their annual Black and White Show at 7 p.m. The Somerset Fall Classic Sale is slated for August 27. A chicken barbeque by the junior holstein club will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the sale at 7:30 p.m. The club has been sponsoring this sale for the past 25 years with consistently high quality animals and a high dollar average. Last year’s sale averaged $1,605 on 39 entries. Somerset County Holstein Club is a very active organization that has great pride in its membership and annual activities. Members of the club participate in one of the largest district Holstein shows in the state with an average of 200 entries.
