First runner-up was Anita Hazlett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hazlett, Cherry Tree. Susan also presented Anita with her banner and a bouquet of pink carnations. Leigh Ann is the 17-year-old daughter of Robert and Doris Kimmel of R 1 Home. She will be a senior at Marion Center High School in Marion Center. Leigh Ann’s activities include helping on the family farm, being an active member of her local 4-H dairy club as well as actively participating in the Pennsylvania Junior Holstein Association. Seventeen-year-old Anita enjoys helping on her family’s 250-acre farm with a total of 52 milking Holsteins. Anita’s favorite activity on the farm is working with the younger stock. In addition to helping at home Anita enjoys swimming. The evening began with each of the three contestants presenting a two to five minute skit they had OUR AMERICAN DAIRY COW and... County Doiry Princess prepared to promote milk and its by-products. Leigh Ann explained how important milk is to all ages by way of a television news broadcast. 1985 dairy princess Susan Nehrig gave her farewell speech and thanked her family and the dairy promotion committee for their support during her reign. The Dixie Land Band entertained the audience while the judges made their final decision. Musical entertainment for the evening was provided by Kenneth Twin Valley FFA Hosts Contests The Twin Valley FFA recently hosted three contests for fellow FFA’ers from Berks and Lebanon counties. In the interview contest, Sue Burkhart, Twin Valley secretary and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Burkhart of Green Hills, earned a first place area award. Competitors were required to write a letter applying for a job, complete an application form for a job of her choice, and finally, be interviewed for the job. Other competitors were Tonya Johnson, Cedar Crest, second; Bob Bell, Twin Valley, third; Kim Brossman, Twin Valley, fourth; Adam Sonnen, Eastern Lebanon County, fifth; Ann Saylor, Ann ville-Cleona, sixth; Jerome Lite, Northern Lebanon High School, seventh; Sherry Donmoyer, “Agriculture” in the broad sense encompasses production inputs made for farmers, farming itself, and the processing, transportation, and retailing that moves food and fiber from the farm to consumers. Gladys Trimble, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Trimble of In diana, was named Miss Congeniality for the event. During Leigh Ann’s reign, she will travel throughout the county promoting milk and dairy products. In September she will travel to Harrisburg to compete for the Pennsylvania Dairy Princess crown. Norlebco, eighth; Melissa Ritchie, ELCO, nineth; and Valerie Sherinski, Lebanon Vo-Tech, tenth. Finishing with the highest over all score was Gretchen Frederick from the Grassland Environ mental Chapter; she was ineligible for area awards. First place area award went to Tim Elliott from Annville-Cleona High School. Kevin Dreibellis from Cedar Creast was second; Mike Stoltzfus from Twin Valley was third; Tobi Ulinsett from Annville- Cleona, fourth; Trudy Schneck from Lebanon Vo-Tech, fifth; Kevin Stoltzfus from Twin Valley, sixth; Rick Hicks from Twin Valley, seventh; Laura Harding from Northern Lebanon, eight; Shawn Martin from Annville- Cleona, nmeth. In the small engines contest the Lebanon County Vo Tech team of Gerald Getz and Louie Fondolle placed first with Gerald finishing first in individual competition. Second place team was the Cedar Crest team of Mike Wenrich and Jeff Ruhl. Third place went to the Twin Valley team of Scott Burnett and John Keenan. Finishing in fourth place was the Conrad Weiser team of Blair Wartzenluft and Troy Souders.
