Pm State Students Receive Entomology Awards Penn State University during an Entomology Awards Day ceremony May 1. ■ee ut at Nicholas Vincent Angelucci, Jr. won the Vartkes Miroyan Memorial scholarship for his academic achievement in the entomology department at Penn State, Alan Snook was named Outstanding Senior in Penn State’s entomology department, and Carlos Rosario received the Lloyd E. Adams scholarship for his academic achievement. The Vartkes Miroyan Memorial is made each year from a fund established by Spawn Mate and the Zoecon Corporation in honor of Vartkes Miroyan, co-founder and president of Spawn Mate. The company provides spawn and 6ther services to mushroom producers. The Zoecon corporation is an agricultural chemical company which also supports the mushroom industry. According to guidelines for the award, the recipient must be an outstanding student who plans to continue his studies in entomology relating to mushrooms. Last fall, Angelucci received the Arthur Gaspari Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to Penn State students majoring in plant or microbiological sciences and who are interested in pursuing a career in the mushroom in dustry. He has been working with entomology professor Robert Snetsinger on a number of projects concerning mushroom pests. Angelucci will be working as an intern with the Ciba-Geigy Cor poration in Philadelphia this summer. He is the son of Nicholas and Kathym Angelucci of Kennett Square. Alan Snook, who received the Outstanding Senior Award, is the son of Wayne and Faye Snook of York. “Alan has been a strong student and it’s been a pleasure to have him in the department,” said Charles Pitts, department head and entomology professor. Snook was on the Dean’s List in 1982 and has been active in entomology club activities.
