LITTLE ROCK - Hundreds of mperior dairy cattle will be saved fom slaughter by sending them to ieedy farmers in Third World lountries, thanks to the efforts of me U.S. based agriculture jevelopment agency. Officials of Heifer Project InternationaT (HPI), which sends livestock ta needy families around the world, recently announced a plan which could enable American dairy farmers to donate and export cattle which would otherwise be slaughtered under the federally sponsored Dairy Termination program. The plan is to place 1000 heifers m developing countries overseas, provided that funds can be raised for transportation, and related costs, including training or recipients, according to Alden R. Hickman, executive director of HPI. AUCTIONS May 10th - 10:30 COMPLETE DISPERSAL - LAKEWOOD FARM 969 Acres, 7 Tracts from 35 to 340 Acres, Campbell County - Rustburg, Va. He added that HPI will place as many heifers as possible with funds donated for this pur pose. “We invite all people who want to see these fine animals put into milk production overseas rather than slaughtered to help with a donation towards the shipping and handling costs.” Hickman said. Under this plan, dairy farmers can donate young heifers to HPI and have them sent to countries where more milk is needed. This would serve the dual purpose of preserving valuable genetic lines that some farmers have spent years building, while allowing poor farmers in other countries to Public Auction Register SAT.
