ce-LMicasttr Fanning, Saturday, April 19,1986 USDA takes action against meatpacking firm WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Department of Agriculture has ordered the denial of its meat inspection services for five years to a Pennsylvania meatpacking company. However, the order will be held in abeyance as long as the company commits no violations of a consent agreement between it and USDA. “A USDA administrative law judge ordered the denial of in spection services to Tri-StAtes Meats and Provisions of Linwood (southwest of Philadelphia), on Feb. 18, based on a previous withdrawal order against Summit Beef Company and any of its successors,” said. Donald L. Houston, Administrator of USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Ser vice. “Tri-States Meats and Provisions is operating out of the same facility that Summit Beef Company formerly occupied,” explained Houston. “Tri-States’ owner is Mark S. Perry, the son of Vincent L. Perry who owned and operated Summit Beef.” Houston said the denial will not take effect as long as Tri-States adheres to federal meat inspection laws and meets additional specified conditions listed in the consent order. The original withdrawal order was issued against Summit Beef based on felony convictions of Vincent Perry on charges of conspiracy to transmit wager information, drug trafficking, and conspiring to sell uninspected meat for human consumption in violation of federal meat in spection laws.
