Have you ever wondered what makes your vacation suc cessful? For one thing, careful planning, and for another, the family itself. Here are some tips to help make your holidays happy, whether the budget’s large or limited: • Decide exactly what your vacation needs and preferences are, then try to tailor your plans to fit. • What interests your family? Swimming, camping, golf, visiting historic sites? Do they like to dress for dinner or to be completely casual? The answers help in selecting resorts, hotels or camp grounds. • Think of the children. For younger travelers, look into special provisions rates, supervised play areas, swimming pools and particular attractions for them. • Be realistic, especially about money. Economics play a big part in the selection of a vacation spot. Better a less ambitious schedule than a budget stretched out of shape and vacation full of stress. • Consider traveling off season. Inquire about trips to areas of the country you’d like to visit at a time that isn’t the height of their vacation season. There are at tractive off-season package rates almost everywhere. • Tipping can cause anxiety. Allow for it in advance, along with other expenses. Then relax. • Check your attitude. Go ex- * pecting to have a good time and leave worries and doubts at home. Smile; you’ll most likely receive a smile in return. Lincattw Farming, Saturday, April HjtgSS-iS By Doris Thomas Lancaster Extension Home Economist • Do what pleases you your vacation. Planning your vacation is part of the fun and excitement. After all, getting there is half the fun. Put Away Your Winter Wools Ready or not, warm weather’s here and now’s the time to put away your winter woolens. Before you do, be sure they are clean. Stains and spots allowed to set in the fabric will always be more difficult to remove later. Have your jackets, coats and tailored or lined woolens dry cleaned. Ask your dry cleaner about chemical treatments to protect against moth damage; most cleaners provide this service treatment may save your favorite suit if you have it done now. For washable woolens follow these techniques: • Use cool or lukewarm water. • Use recommended amounts of non-alkaline soap or detergents. • Allow to soak 3 to 4 minutes and gently squeeze don’t rub. • Rinse at least twice with fresh water. • Roll in a bath towel to absorb excess water. • Dry woolens on a flat surface, away from direct heat. • Gently shape a woolen knit, to its original size. When you’re ready to store out of season woolens, be sure your wool garments are well protected against moths. Have them treated by a dry cleaner, or use one of the preventive products available in many supermarkets and hardware stores moth balls, crystals, sprays, or pockets. Store them in a cedar closet or chest or in garment bags. Never use plastic cleaning bags woolens need some air circulation. Heard?
