Gilles, administrator of USDA’s Federal Grain Inspection Service. Gilles and other USDA officials and representatives of the U.S. grain industry recently toured grain shipment and inspection facilities in the Soviet Union at the Russian’s invitation. They also said corn shipments should not contain more than 14.5 moisture in order to avoid spoilage problems. Gilles said Soviet officials believe most problems with U.S. grain shipments are due to grain companies not sending what the Soviets order or to Soviet in spectors not demanding high enough quality.
