DS-Lancaster Farming Saturday, January 25,1986 NAMA promoting LINCOLN, NE - The National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) and its 29 chapters nationwide are promoting National Agriculture Day which is scheduled for March 20, the first day of spring. NAMA is supporting the 14th observance' of the day that is set aside to honor the 24 million men and women in agriculture and related industries - that’s three jobs on the farm and 19 jobs sup ported by agriculture out of every 100 people in the work force. The Agriculture Council of America has worked with the U.S. Congress in securing passage of a joint resolution asking that the President declare National Agriculture Day as an official national observance. CREAMERY - The Penn State Cooperative Extension Service and the Soil Conservation Service are sponsoring a series of regional conferences on current manure management practices the first week in February. Scheduled to be held in four counties, these conferences will cover manure handling and utilization methods that can be used by most Pennsylvania animal and crop farmers. Specialists will discuss methods of handling semisolid or solid manure and manure as a liquid, as well as how to size storage systems. They will also discuss the cost and nutrient savings for various systems. The afternoon session will be devoted to using manure for crop production. Agronomists will present ways of using soil and manure testing to reduce fertilizer bills and to protect the en vironment. Extension agricultural engineers Robert Graves and Dan Meyers, extension agronomists Doug Beagle and Ray Shipp, as well as William Bowers, engineer from the Soil Conservation Ser vice, will present the latest on manure management practices for Pennsylvania farmers. Manure storage and handling equipment suppliers also will be available for consultation.
