Franklin Extension to address
CHAMBERSBURG - “The
Chesapeake: A Regional Problem
In Search of a Regional Solution”,
will be the featured presentation at
the Jan. 31,68 th Annual Meeting of
the Franklin County Agricultural
Extension Association. Dr. Tony
Mazzaccaro, assistant director,
Sea Grant Extension Program, of
the University of Maryland, will
deliver the slide-illustrated ad
dress.
Fred E. Rice, president of the
Association, invites all Franklin
county residents to attend. “After

conservation award
HARRISBURG - A Penn
sylvanian is one of six con
servation leaders that have been
selected to receive 1986 national
award recognition by the National
Association of Conservation
Districts. The awards will be
presented at the convention of
NACD on February 2-6,1986, at the
Opryland Hotel in Nashville,
Tennessee.
George Wolff, a Lebanon County
fanner, will receive NACD’s
special recognition award. He is
owner and operator of a 300-acre
green farm in Lebanon County. He
is known for his innovative
thinking and acting in con
servation circles nationwide.
During his 12 years of service as a
conservation district director in
Lebanon County, full-time
executive assistant and full-time
forester positions were created.

offered for the first time, en
vironmental education programs
were expanded, and a small flood

Chesapeake problem
all,” said Rice, “Most of us are
concerned about our en
vironment...and the ways in which
our activities affect the en
vironment of others. Moreover, all
of Franklin county lies within the
Chesapeake Bay drainage basin;
thus we must be concerned about
this regional ecological problem”.
The meeting will be held in the
form of a banquet, starting at 7
p.m., at the Kauffman’s Com
munity Center. An “Ag-
Commodities Social Hour” will
start at 6:15 p.m. Tickets for the

At the state level, he has guided
an effort on behalf of the Penn
sylvania Association of Con
servation District Directors, Inc.,
to increase the State appropriation
to conservation districts during
1983 and 1984 from $250,000 to
$750,000. He is vitally involved in
water supply management issues
and is playing a leadership role in
environmental protection of the
Chesapeake Bay.
He continues his personal
programs of involvement by
participating on a committee of
public and private ag-related
groups formulating Penn
sylvania’s agricultural pollution
reduction strategy on which he has
served and remains as advisor. He
has also served as a member of the
Cititzens Advisory Committee on
the Chesapeake Bay Executive
Countil, and is currently one of the
Pennsylvanians represented on the
Chesapeake Bay Commission.

680-acre farm and 175 Polled
Hereford and Hereford cows. The
Glenkirk farm has bred the most

Hereford herd in the United States

for the third successive year than
