MAMMA has contracted with two in-store advertising firms to broadcast brief audio messages about dairy products to consumers in supermarkets of three major foodstore chains. The contractual agreements establish an in-store advertising schedule in the supermarkets of Pathmark, Superfresh and Safeway. The flexibility of in-store broadcasting allows MAMMA to tailor its generic selling messages in each chain to coordinate with the dairy promotional and/or merchandising activities of that chain. For example, a different message can be played each week to coordinate with a different dairy feature. Seasonal serving suggestions for dairy dishes are easily made. And the in-store announcements can be tailored to coordinate with MAMMA’s television and radio advertising to trigger consumer recall of those commercials. let Our People Come Talk With You About SHOimSH Sh Tank IF ANSWER TO LOW COST Manure Stonge Tanks WE OFFER THESE TANKS IN ANY DIMENSION, SIZE OR DESIGN • Fast & Economical Installation • Low Maintenance • No Erosion Problems • We Can Offer ASCS & SCS Approved Designs This Is • SHOTCRETE Manure Storage Tanks • Installation & Maintenance of Concrete Bunker Silos • Stone Wall Repairs • PreCast Gunite Lined Water or Manure Storage Tanks We’re The “Concrete Specudists” MAR-ALLEN CONCRETE PRODUCTS, INC. As another example, the messages can direct consumers to look for tear-off recipes offered by MAMMA, at the dairy case, and suggest that they pick-up dairy products to make those recipes. The majority ot purchasing decisions are still made during the shopping trip. According to current research relating to in store behavior, 65 percent of purchasing decisions are made while shopping. The supermarket is still the most basic and frequent point of pur chase for dairy products. Therefore, the supermarket is an excellent place to capitalize on the equity built through MAMMA’S traditional media efforts and in fluence the consumer where and when they have the opportunity to purchase products. With electronic scanners now in place at supermarket check outs, it will also be possible to directly measure the effectiveness of the in-store advertising by tracking the movement of dairy products. Movement of specific dairy products can be tracked prior to the in-store advertising and after, to indicate the impact of the messages. • Dam, Reservoir & Spillway Repair • Slatted Floor Systems • Silo Repairs Other advantages of m-store advertising include being able to reach all buyers, not just those who watch TV or listen to radio, and in store advertising is relatively inexpensive compared to TV or radio advertising. In the Philadelphia area, MAMMA has contracted with Instore Broadcast Advertising to place advertising in 59 Superfresh stores and 34 Pathmark stores beginning November 25. If this proves successful more stores and additional chains will be added. In Delaware, Maryland, nor thern Virginia and Washington, D.C., MAMMA has contracted with Instore Satellite Network to ad vertise in 80 Safeway food stores. Advertising in these stores began November 13. Contractual arrangements were negotiated by MAMMA Mer chandising Directors Jim Whelan and Suzy Voight who will continue to update the advertising schedule and monitor its effectiveness.
