displays, growers can pick up a
card that will familiarize them
with the benefits of Dual and
Bicep, two herbicides used for
control of weeds and grasses in
sorghum. After they read the card,
growers are asked to fill it out and
return it to Ciba-Geigy.
For each card received, Ciba-

sorghum fund. “We anticipate that
we’ll donate at least another

saw an opportunity to help in a way
that extends all the way from
providing high-quality, high
performance herbicides that boost
sorghum production to opening up
overseas markets.
“We think this is the first
program of its kind to boost
sorghum exports,” Hartzfeld said.
“Sorghum generally has taken a
back seat to corn and soybeans
and, in some cases, cotton.”
About 16 million acres of
sorghum are produced annually, 00
percent of it grown from Nebraska
through Kansas, Missouri and
Texas. About 40 to 90 percent of
total production is exported.
“Obviously, when the numbers are
that high, we need to maintain a
lively export business. If we were
to lose some of our overseas
customers, the sorghum market
would change dramatically,”
Hartzfeld said.
“We’re hopeful that, with fun
