Pennsylvania FFA’ers place in national contests \ KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Penn sylvania FFA’ers joined an estimated 22,000 members, ad visors, parents and friends at the National FFA Convention held Nov. 14 to 16 in Kansas City, Mo. The Pennsylvania delegation competed in a variety of national FFA contests. Below are the results of their efforts. A Pennsylvania team from Bemville took sixth place in the national dairy contest in a field of 44 teams. Team members were Doris Stump, Gary Bicksler and Troy Koenig. In individual com petition, Troy and Gary received gold emblems and Doris received a silver emblem. In dairy showmanship, Ryan Weimer received a gold emblem. A team from Somerset took eighth place in the forestry con test. Team membrs James Sims, Mike Lorenzo and Bob Akers all received silver emblems in in dividual competition. In the nursery/landscape competition the Pennsylvania team placed 11th out of the 39 teams competing. In individual competition team member Barb Kudia, Willow Street, received a gold emblem, while fellow team members Kerry Ross and Sherri Frey, both of Willow Street, received silver emblems. In the agricultural mechanics contest, the Pennsylvania team, consisting of members Todd Roberts, Charles Zerby and Ray Schloch, all of Greenville, placed nineth. In individual placings, Charles received a gold emblem, and Ray and Todd each received silver emblems. Nancy is a member of the Octorara FFA Chapter and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William J. MacCauley, Jr. Swine Production Award NATIONAL f>- FA Swine Production Proficiency Award from Kim Havens, assistant executive director of the National FFA Foundation, representing award sponsor Pfizer, Inc. Rodney is a member of the Conewago- New Oxford FFA Chapter and the son of Erma Herr. and Mark Shiderly, all of Ephrata, represented Pennsylvania in the dairy foods contest, placing 16th in a field 30 teams. In individual competition Sharon received a gold emblem, and Eric and Mark each received silver emblems. A Pennsylvania team of Nelson Horning, Kevin Martin, and Thomas Rausch, all of New Holland, placed 13th in the farm business management contest. In individual competition, Nelson received a gold emblem, Kevin received a silver emblem and Thomas received a bronze em blem. The Pennsylvania floriculture team of Karen Frank, Bonnie Noss and Dori Kreiner, all of Mechanicsburg, brought home a 16th place among 37 other teams. They all received silver emblems in individual competiton. In the livestock contest the Pennsylvania team from Elverson placed 27th out of 46 competing Heisey receives Honorary American Farm Degree SYRACUSE, NY - Enos B. Heisey of Manlius, NY, received the Honorary American Farm Degree Nov. 15 at the 58th Annual Convention of the National Future Farmers of America in Kansas City. He was among 169 men and women honored at special ceremonies with the highest recognition given to individuals who have given service to youth, agriculture and education, and the FFA organization. Team members were Rod Stoltzfus, who received a silver emblem in individual competition, and John Eaton Jr. and Greg Woodring, who both received bronze emblems. The following Pennsylvania FFA’ers received gold emblems in the livestock showmanship con test: Katie Hicks, Robert Bell, Jere Hoover, Rodney Nissley and Oanell Hess. Ann Kline received a silver emblem. The Pennsylvania team placed 26th in meats competition. In in dividual competition team members Cassie Stowe, Elizabethtown, received a silver emblem and Mike Hall, Elizabethtown, received a bronze emblem. In the poultry contest the Penn sylvania team placed 28th. Team members Duane Hess and Tobin Shank, both from Millersville, received bronze emblems in in dividual competition. relations manager at Agway. Donald D. Baer of Annville received his American Farmer degree, the highest degree presented by the National FFA Organization, during the National FFA Convention held recently in Kansas City, Mo. Donald, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Baer of Annville, is currently employed by Dol-Mar Dairy as herdsmen. He earned the American Farmer degree on-the basis of work ex perience at Dol-Mar Dairy. To qualify for the American Farmer degree, FFA members must have advanced through a system of degrees unique to the FFA organization.
