Delame teens attend 4-H leadership conference NEWARK, Del. - Three Delaware teens attended a national 4-H leadership con ference, “Profiles For Tomorrow,” at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland, Oct. 12 to 15. They are David C DAUPHIN - Dauphin County 4- H’ers recognized and awarded their leaders, outstanding mem bers, and friends during their annual 4-H Achievement Night held recently at the Stoney Creek Auction Bam, Dauphin. Lisa Romberger of the Miller sburg Busy Bee Workers and Sonya Lapp of the Halifax Super Sewers received recognition for their Teen Leadership projects. The following 4-H leaders were cited for five, ten, and twenty years of service, respectively: Lou Ann Hoffman of the Halifax Super Sewers, Amy Williams of the Rainbow 4-H Club, and Helen and Grant Bleacker of the Lower Dauphin 4-H Light Horse and Pony Club. Others receiving first year leader awards were: Shirley Nice, Jane Rode, Carol Beamesderfer, Andrea Shatto, Virgil Baker, Thomas Bowman, Cheryl Whittle, Linda Rudy, John Scheib, and Joyce Taylor. The county winners in the national 4-H awards program were also honored and included: Mike Brubaker, swine; Lisa Rom berger, clothing; Mark Brubaker, foods; Eric Brubaker, photography; Christy Deiter and Kara Laskowski, Wildlife; Floyd Buffington and Linda Buffington in dairy and sheep. Other national award winners in the Fashion Revue category were; Lisa Romberger, Gretchen Hoff man, Kristi Cooper, Connie Zimmerman, Laura Cmi and few,, C.E. WILEY & SON, INC. IOIS. Featured speaker for the evening was Dr. James Van Horn, associate professor of family sociology extension at Penn State University. The evening concluded with a slide presentation of the year’s 4-H activities. Morneau, 17, is beginning his sixth year as a 4-H'er. In 1984 he was the state winner in citizenship Lou Ann Hoffman received the silver clover and cer tificate for five years of service. and attended the National 4-H Congress in Chicago This summer he was one of two teens to organize the New Castle County 4-H Day Camp. Roy, 16, is beginning his eighth 4- H year. He has concentrated on gardening and horticulture projects and was just elected treasurer of the Kent County 4-H Junior Council. Taylor, 16, is beginning her ninth year in 4-H. She was a 1984 national food preservation winner and was just elected treasurer of the Sussex County 4-H Junior Council. After attending workshops in goal setting, decision making, communications skills eroup Fulton Grange 66 met in regular session Oct. 14 at their hall in Oakryn when the Charter was draped m memory of Richard A. Nye. The following officers were installed for a one-year term: J. Everett Kreider, Master; Harry Baker, Overseer; Betty Wise, Lecturer; Robert Fite, Steward; Thomas Galbreath, Assistant Steward; Linda Martin, Lady Ass’t Steward; Bobbie Browning, Chaplain; Clifford Holloway Jr., Treasurer; Dons J. Brown, Secretary; Ai Rorabaugh, Gatekeeper; Doris Fite, Ceres; Annaßell Wiley, Pomona; and Doris Hough, Flora. Also installed for three-year terms were; Lamar Heim as a member of the executive committee, and Richard Lefever as a member of the finance committee During the business meeting women’s activities chairman Annaßell Wiley and the youth committee chairman, Joyce Holloway, gave reports for the year. Linda Martin, ticket com mittee chairman for the Nov. 16 dinner theater, had tickets at the meeting. Only 135 tickets can be sold. Annaßell Wiley is in charge of entertainment. Dorothy Stauffer reported 11 members of Fulton Grange at tended Region H talent contest Oct. 12 at Kutztown and Ai Rorabaugh came in second in recitations. A goal of the conference was to increase the involvement of 4-H teens in determining needs of their states and communities and securing resources to meet those needs. The program, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, also featured UPI White House Bureau Chief Helen Thomas as a guest speaker. Thomas, who has covered the White House since 1961, will give an insider’s view of seven presidential leadership styles in her address, “Thank You, Mr. President.” Fulton Grange 66 team competed in the State Grange’s Knowledge Bowl contest. She also announced a State Grange metal and woodcraft Christmas tree ornament contest. Secretray Doris Brown an nounced that the Lancaster County Extension 4-H meats identification and judging team won in the state contest and will represent Penn sylvania in the National 4-H Meats contest during the American Royal in Kansas City, MO, Nov. 12 to 15. Jeff Craig, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Craig, who are members of Fulton Grange is a member of this team. Fulton Grange gave a $25 donation to help defray their traveling expenses. An officers meeting was set for Nov. 21, 7:30 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Everett Kreider, Mechanic Grove. The next meeting, Nov. 28, will be an open meeting and will be a Halloween party. Everyone is asked to come in costume. After a short business meeting there will be a hayride.
