The delegates urged the President and Congress to pursue: • a General Accounting Office (GAO) audit of the Farm Credit System with a preliminary report in sixty days to reveal the current financial conditions facing U.S. farmers. • a Presidential Task Force to develop short term alternatives addressing the Farm Credit System problem and long-term options to meet the needs of agriculture in the future. • congressional hearings to develop meaningful legislation to help farmers and agriculture credit institutions in this crisis and create an agriculture credit system able to withstand the rigors of the world market place.
