D4-Uncast*r Farming Saturday, August 10,1985 WEEDSPORT, NY - The top honors were divided at the recent Eighth Snnual Empire Classic Show at the Cayuga County Fairgrounds. Twenty-eight Polled Hereford breeders exhibited 65 head in the 1985 breed show which is annually sponsored by the Empire Polled Hereford Association. Carl Mc- Cullough, manager of Rosebank Angus Farm of Germantown judged the show and commented favorably on the quality of the animals exhibited, especially those in the large junior yearling heifer classes. A highlight of the Classis Show was the second annual Futurity competition. A Follifoot Farm heifer, FFF Justa Sucess UBISS, owned by Dr. Robert Jacobson of Dryden won the Futurity and the first prize of $239.40. Four yearling heifers made this final class of the 1985 Futurity out of the 37 nominations made in the fall of 1983. Second place paid $205.20; third, $153.90; and fourth, $85.50. The grand champion bull was also the junior champion, SCF Rustler 107, an Enforcer 107 H son owned by Raymond and Winifred Clark of Clinton. The reserve grand champion bull was the senior champion, West Wind Excel 445M16R, a BTCL Domino 445 M son, owned by Elm Farm and T.M. & K.E. Livingston of Central Bridge. The bull calf champion was a Sterling son, FFF Top Dollar T 1 owned by Follifoot Farm. Brian Birdsall exhibited the reserve champion bull calf. BBA Chad Line 1 C 35; Mill Creek Farm of Ontario exhibited the reserve champion junior bull, Radar Sungod 465; and R.C. Card of McGraw and Ron Birdsall of Homer exhibited the reserve champion senior bull, Dunwalke Line One 352. J-Square Farm of Stillwater exhibited the grand champion and heifer who was also the junior champion, BRHL Trivia, a daughter of Briar Hills Tornado, High Meadows Emma, a daughter of HMF Inforcer 47, owned by High Meadows Farm of LaFayette and Marshall Farms of Port Byron. Sayre Farms of Phelps exhibited the heifer calf champion and Brian Birdsall the reserve champion heifer calf. The cow/calf classes were very competitive also with John and Patricia Porter of Phelps exhibiting the champion cow/calf pair and Elm Farm and Mark Veeder exhibiting the reserve grand champion cow/calf pair. Brian Birdsall and Marshall Farms were runners-up for the two titles. Henry Bono of Richmondville was show chairman. William Greene, livestock extension associate at Cornell, and Peter Comerford, marketing specialist for the Department of Ag & Markets weighed and scored the cattle before the show.
