15-16 at the Sullivan County Fairgrounds.
The festival, which is open to the public, will also feature
arts and crafts, entertainment, an old dairy equipment
exhibit, skills of yesteryear, games for the kids and lots of
country food.
Admission for adults is SI and children under 12 are ad
mitted free. The fairgrounds are located along Route 154 in
Forksville, Pa.

Harrison, 16-year-old son of Mr
and Mrs. Emery Harrison of
Honey Brook, led Twin Valley FFA
members to individual and team
honors in the recent Berks County
FFA Poultry judging contest.
Butch captured first place in
dividual honors in the contest.
Robert Bell, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Bell Mohnton and a Twin
Valley member, placed second.
Mike Devine of Honey Brook
placed fourth to round out the Twin
Valley team. Other Twin Valley
members were John Foreman and
Sue Wilson.
The poultry judging contest
required students to place two
classes of laying hens. A class of
four dozen eggs was placed with
students indicating what faults
they had found with each dozen.
Contestants took a written test on
egg quality, incubation and
brooding of the chicks, and raising
poultry.

Butch Harrison tops poultry judging contest

(retail cuts) had to be identified. A
class of 25 eggs was graded for
interior quality by candling each
egg. A similar class was graded for
exterior quality only. Finally a
class of ten broiler carcasses was
graded into U.S. Dept of
Agriculture market grades.
" Eggs and hens for the contest
were furnished by Elverson
Poultry Farm, with Victor F.
Weaver of New Holland supplying
the broilers and chicken patties for
a session on grading which will be
included in the state and national
contest.
The Oley Valley team placed
second in team competition, Fred
Lutz placed third in individual
competition, Robert Hess placed
fifth individually, and Craig
Wanner was nineth.
The Kutztown team placed third
in team competition. Heath
Westner placed seventh in
dividually, Butch Behn eighth,
with Andy Murphy rounding out
their team.
