Bloomsburg, PA 717-784-0250 Lancaster Farming Saturday, June 1,1985-D2l Farm and Home Field Day set Aug. 14 in Delaware NEWARK, DE - Farm and Home Field Day will return to the University of Delaware Substation near Georgetown this year on Wednesday, August 14. The event was cancelled in 1984 due to the threat of avian influenza. Plans are under way to develop an evening program to supplement the daytime activities. As in the past, visitors can take part in special tours of corn, soybean and vegetable research and demonstration plots. Tours this year are being expanded to include crop research plots on the nearby Dill farm, which was recently acquired by the univer sity. According to substation director George Chaloupka, plans are also being made to expand the suc cessful 1983 tent exhibit and demonstration area to ac commodate a wider scope of agriculturally related presen tations. Farm animals, including horses, will be among featured exhibits. There will be a numbe of farm safety presentations, including a special program for farm wives, plus demonstrations on electrical safety, home sprinkler fire control systems, and fitting respirators properly. “This year we also plan to have considerable youth involvement (4-H, F.F.A.) in field day ac tivities,” Chaloupka says. “Young people will be participating in exhibits, demonstrations and competitive events.” Consumer programs, always one of the highlights of every Farm and Home Field Day, are again being planned for both the daytime and evening. Among them will be presentations on managing work and stress, modifying recipes for special diets, and exercising for fitness. Watch area papers for further details as August 14 approaches.
