to be in that position. But I’m sure
that you’re not going to find the
perfect individual in terms of
background who will truly suit
every agricultural organization in
the state,” states Qrubb.
“I think it’s important that the
secretary of agriculture have input
from farm groups. I know PFA’s
reputation well enough that I think,
-regardless of who the secretary of
agriculture is, those channels of
communication will be opened up
and the input devices will be there
along with every other ag group.
Certainly you can’t sit in
isolation.”
But Grubb does emphasis one of
the strengths he can offer the
agriculture department in the
remaining months of the Thorn
burgh administration.
“I’ve been in administration for
a good many years. I’ve had major
responsibilities at the university,
and they haven’t all been the
same,” says Grubb. With the
reorganizations the university has

himself in charge of a whole new
division at the university in the
matter of a day.
“The reason I’ve been involved
in these (reorganizations) over the
years is it doesn’t take me six
months or a year to get direction
and movement. I know how to
work with people, I know how to
communicate.”
“You don’t sit and manage in
isolation,” says Grubb about his
management style. “You use the
resources you have; you draw the
best out of them, you know, get a
team and start working.”
“I hope to step in and get to know
the people I’m working with and be
off and running in a very short
period,” says Grubb about the
proposed agriculture post.
“A lot can be accomplished in a
year.
Although PFA has criticized the
Governor for not selecting a
nominee who is currently engaged
in commercial agriculture, Grubb
is not foreign to the farm.
The Centre County native was
born and raised on a beef, hog and
general crop farm. Grubb earned
both his bachelor’s and master’s
degrees in agricultural economics.
