For the best results, pre-wash the cloth before painting. First, place the fabric on a magazine covered with a paper towel. You will need a hard surface for rubbing the transfer. Cut out the stencil and remove the protective sheet. Place the blue surface into place with the tacky side touching the fabric. Make sure the design is in the perfect position, and taped securely into position. W&i t Be careful not to tape over any part of the design. Hold the burnisher in one hand and rub down hard enough on the stencil to make it begin to change color. Continue rubbing until the entire stencil has turned from dark blue to hgh blue. Next, remove the protective mylar sheeting and remove all the tape that was holding it into place. Take the protective backing sheet that was put aside in the first step. Rub the stencil with the white sheet, making extra-certain that every edge is well pressed down. Tape all around the edge of the stencil Now you are ready for painting. Put a paper towel beneath the single layer of fabric to absorb any surplus paint. You may paint the design in as many colors as you wish, but it is suggested that you start with the lightest colors first and move on to the darker shades. It is important that you do not over-apply the paint. The final step is to “set” the paints with heat. You can use either a blow dryer or an iron. To blow dry the paints set the dryer at a medium temperature and con tinue to pass the dryer over the paints until the colors become matted. To set the color with an iron set the iron on the proper temperature for the fabric. Cover the fabric with a brown paper bag, and iron the bag making circular motions. Change to a white sheet of paper and continue pressing for «bout three minutes. Remove the stencil by burnishing wide cellophane tape to the stencil. After the entire stencil has been “taped,” pull up the tape.
