    UNIVERSITY PARK - The 1985
annual Forage and Grassland
Conference, sponsored by the
American Forage and Grassland
Council in cooperation with the
Pennsylvania Forage and
Grassland Council and The Penn
sylvania State University, will be
held March 4-6 at the Hershey
Motor Lodge and Convention
Center, according to John P.
Baylor, conference organizer.
The conference officially opens
on Mon., March 4 with a special
luncheon. More than 50 scientists,
farmers and industry represen
tatives will give presentations on
the latest developments in forage
and grassland management during
the three days. The afternoon
general session features selected

National forage conference upcoming
topics important to the forage
industry. Monday evening there
will be a celebration and banquet
to recognize the 25th anniversary
of the Pennsylvania Forage
Council, the first of its kind in the
United States.
Tuesday’s program includes: 1.
Improving Forage Crops and
Grasslands Through Plant
Breeding and Genetics, 2. Forage
Preservation, Quality, and
Ruminant Nutrition, 3. Humid
Grazing Lands - Management and
Utilization, 4. Range and Native
Grasslands Management and
Utilization, and 5. New Develop
ments in the Forage Industry.

On Wednesday, two nationally
recognized speakers will zero in on
issues of concern to the forage
livestock industry. Peter C. Myers,
chief, Soil Conservation Service,
will discuss “Conservation Issues
of the Day” and Burdette
Breidentern, director of research,
National Livestock and Meat
Board, will consider “The Role of
Red Meat and Other Animal
Products in the United States
Diet.”
The conference will end with a
luncheon on Wednesday. “The
total conference is geared to top
forage-livestock producers as wel 1
as those serving the producer
including ag-industry and scien
tists,” Baylor emphasizes. There
are currently 20 state councils

The recommended decision is
based on the record of a public
hearing held last September in
Alexandria, Va.
Edward T. Coughlin, dairy of
ficial with USDA’s Agricultural

D.C., said the amendments would
provide that a reserve processing
facility that is connected by
pipeline to another person’s
facility located on the same
premises be considered a separate
plant if the pipeline is used only to
move by-products between the two
facilities.
The amendments were proposed
by Atlantic Processing, Inc., a
federation of four cooperatives.
The amendments are necessary to
reflect current marketing con
ditions, Coughlin said.
