Ask the Old Farmer; I have recently acquired a
handsome pair of old snowshoes My problem is
with the webbing, which is very dry and brittle
Some of the strands are breaking away from the
wood edges How should 1 go about preserving this
old leather so I may continue to use the shoes 7
JD O, Menden, N H
Since the webbing is dry enough to break, I doubt if you
can save it But try heating petroleum jelly just a little
and rubbing it into the bindings with a piece of terry
cloth Let them set for a day or two, then apply a good coat of saddle dressing
Home Hint: Line the bottom of a cake pan with parchment paper to prevent the batter from
absorbing fat and forming a soggy bottom while baking
