elected for three-year terms on the
county’s DHIA board. Filling those
positions are George Shue,
Brodbecks, Martin Grey, York and
Tom Stein, York. York County’s
staff of DHIA testers includes
Marianne Walter, David Miller,
Richard Detter, Vere Balmer,
Abbe Schott and Edwina Johnson.

Several area agri-businesses
sponsored the awards and ribbons
for DHIA accomplishments.
Among them were Spangler and
Sprenkle, Beacon Milling Co.,
Agway, Pennfield Corporation,
Farm Credit, W.L. Mummert Co.,
Service Feed and Supply, D.E.
Horn, Animal Medic and the
Pennsylvania DHIA. Rutter’s
Dairy donated milk for the banquet
and cheese was provided courtesy
of the Phillips Cheese Company.

HONESDALE - The Wayne
County Dairy Herd Improvement
Association completed 58 years of
service to the Wayne County dairy
industry with the conclusion of the
most recent testing year on Oc
tober 1. The Association finished
the year with an annual production
of 15,013 pounds of milk and 553
pounds of butterfat per cow-an
all-time high.
There were an average of 5257
cows on test for the fuU year, which
was highest number on test in the
history of Wayne County D.H.I.A.
Kevin Burleigh, Pleasant Mount,
had the highest DHIA production
with 20,960 pounds of milk and 773
pounds of butterfat per cow. Other
herds exceeding the 700 pound fat
level were: James Slocum,
Susquehanna; Kinghill Farm,
(David Soden), Stamicca; Robert
Fries, Aldenville; Paul Kennedy,
Honesdale; Glover Brothers,
Stamica; and Rowe Brothers,
Honesdale.
The highest butterfat lactation
record completed during the year
was accomplished by “Liza”, a
cow owned by James Wood
mansee, Lake Como. Her complete
record in 295 days was 20,121
pounds of milk and 1027 pounds of
butterfat.
The top milk production record
was achieved by “Bess” owned by
James Slocum, Susquehanna, who

The high lifetime production
record was earned by “Sophie”
owned by Rowe Brothers,
Honesdale. Thus far she has
produced 238,659 pounds of milk
and 8934 of butterfat.
The Association will grant the
annual high quality milk award to
Michael Nebzydoski, Pleasant
Mount. The award is based on the
lowest average somatic cell count
for the year.
D.H.I.A. supervisors employed
