Ken told the banquet guests of all the programs and contests that are open to junior Holstein 4-H members. He also encouraged the 4-H’ers to set goals for themselves and to start at an early age to achieve them. Recognizing this year’s county judging team members and their efforts were coaches Judy Black and Sue Sellers. The county had two teams this year. The junior team consisted of Miriam Kelly, Joe Stitt and Kristen Metzker. The senior team members were Andy Greenleaf, Mike and Michelle Bucket, Susanne Kelly, Luke Bowser and Lucinda Bradley. At the spring contest held at Penn State the senior team was fourth and the junior team was eleventh. Both teams also attended the junior judging school held in Franklin County. Then it was on to state 4-H days, where the team mnwigi i Dvenroar jlnMynK jifc| ■arming, Sal placed eighth and Susanne Kelly placed sixth individually. The final contest the team competed in was the All-American Judging Forum held in Harrisburg during the All-American Show. The team placed third and Lucinda Bradley was seventh individually. Three young ladies Karen Diebold, Alice Smith and Stacy Wertman competed in the county demonstration contest. They all had dairy-related demonstrations and advanced to the regional level. At regionals, Karen and Alice were judged to go on to participate at state 4-H days. At the Morrisons Cove 4-H Dairy Show held in Martinsburg, eleven qualified to go to the District 4-H Show held in Indianna. Taking Holsteins were Joe Stitt, Miriam Kelly, Mike Burket, Lucinda Bradley, Kristen Metzker, Stacy Wertman, Matt Block and Jennifer Frederick. Michelle Burket en tered an Ayrshire and Tom Greenleaf and Monica Dell exhibited Jerseys. Michelle Burket had junior champion with her Ayrshire and Miriam Kelly had junior champion with her Holstein. The Holstein County group placed sixth. Five were judged to have a quality animal needed for the State Junior Show. They were Miriam Kelly, Lucinda Bradley, Mike and Michelle Burket and Tom Greenleaf. Lucinda placed first with her junior calf. The highlight of the evening was recognition of the five outstanding dairy members. The following hard working individuals received the coveted plaques. They are: Miriam Kelly, Joe Stitt, Susanne Kelly, Mike Burket and Lucinda Bradley. Mike and Michelle Burket, twins of Wayne and Bonnie Burket of Mecbanisburg, competed with over 1,200 other 4-H’ers to become Blair County’s Outstanding 4-H Boy and Girl.
