As the junior breeding sheep shows went on all day, more than 15 champion exhibitors were named for the six different breeds shown. A winner in other KILE competition this week, Herr picked up the titles of champion and reserve champion ewe, as well as the reserve champion ram. Vying for the champion ewe, the Lancaster countian edged out Billy and Jimmy Wade, of Greenville, Va, last year’s champions in the Dorset competition. But the Wade brothers did hold onto their champion ram title in this Sun day’s show. Another Pennsylvania the Suffolk breed show. This was a first time win for Becky Black, Avella. The 17-year-old Washington County FFA and 4-H member was pleased with her success, especially since this was her first year of exhibiting at KILE. Other Suffolk champions were shown by Maryland juniors. Greg Hevner, of Keymar, Md., exhibited the champion ram. Matthew McFann and Karen Fleishell, both of Woodbine, Md., showed the reserve champion ram and reserve champion ewe, respec tively. junior in At the conclusion of the South down and Shropshire shows, some more Pennsylvanians were found in the winners’ circle. Joyce Harpster of Boalsburg, exhibited the champion Shropshire ewe. Jeff Bricker, Carlisle, and Matthew and Arlisa Snavely, Lancaster, brought the reserve champions into the show ring. Jeff exhibited the reserve ram and the Snavely siblings had the reserve ewe. Jeff Bricker and Arlisa Snavely both were winners in last year’s show as well. Deanna Stumbo, Honeoye, N.Y., showed the champion rams in both the Shropshire and Southdown breeds. The champion Southdown ewe came from the Lehigh County FFA flock. This is the first year on the show string for the FFA’ers, so earning the KILE title was a pleasant surprise for them. Reserve winners in the South down competition were Peggy McCrumb, Mars, and Suzan Falvey, Bedford. Hampshire competition was dominated by Rebecca Hope, Knoxville, Md. She walked away with the champion and reserve champion ewe, and reserve champion ram titles, an exact repeat of her wins at last year’s show. The 13-year-old daughter of Betty and Marvin Hope, Rebecca has also picked up championship titles in the open breeding sheep shows. Honey Hill Hampshires, Pitt stown, N.J. exhibited the cham pion Hampshire ram. The Oxford show also ended with only two exhibitors taking the championship titles. Kurt and Walt Johnson, Alliance, Ohio, showed the champion ram and ewe, as well as the reserve champion ewe. The only other exhibitor to capture a title, the reserve champion ram, was Anita Stoddard of Quarry Hill Farm, Kingston, N.Y. Judge for the KILE junior breeding sheep show was Jim Westhaven, a Dorset and Oxford breeder from Lancaster, Ohio.
