BlB—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 10,1984 3 Pa. heifers top Jr. Breeding Cattle BY JACK HUBLEY HARRISBURG A trio of young Pennsylvania exhibitors ac counted for three of the seven grand champion heifers named at the Keystone International Livestock , Exposition’s Junior Breeding Cattle Show last Sunday. York County exhibitors led the way, taking grand champion honors in both the Chianina and Simmental Shows. Angus competition kicked off the breed show, with judge Herman Purdy of Alexandria, Pa., going to Ohio exhibitor Molly Jane Cooper for his champion. Cooper, 15, paraded her stylish heifer, PVF Barbaramere 983, to the number one spot only a month after taking top junior show honors at the Eastern National Livestock Show in Timonium, Md. A Pine Drive Big Sky daughter, Cooper’s heifer Junior show champion Chianina honors went to Jamie Kohr of York. Ed McLaughlin of Woodsfield, Ohio, and his champion Shorthorn heifer. |a. ir \ S I ON, I LIVESTOCK Diane Moody of New Concorde, Ohio, had the champion Hereford heifer, exhibited by Cheryl Hampton. KILE Show was also champion of the Bred and Owned division. Right behind Miss Cooper was Pa. exhibitor Diane Krause with the reserve champion female, DSK Grand Erica 683. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Krause of Slatington, Miss Krause also took reserve Bred and Owned honors with her Power Play daughter. The Charolais Show belonged to Pennsylvania, with Crystal Clutter of Prosperity, and Kent Fisher of Oley, taking grand and reserve honors, respectively. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Clutter, Miss Clutter, took grand champion honors with Riverwood Streamline F 429516, a Wha-Cha sired female that remains undefeated during the 1984 show season. The show’s reserve champion Charolais was RCC Queen Victoria 4243, owned by Kent Fisher. Sired by Su King Jr. 029, Victoria was named champion at Timonium’s Eastern National last month. Fisher also exhibited KILE’s calf champion, out of the same bull. Top honors in the Simmental Show went to Ms. Prime Time Annette, shown by Joseph Druck, 15, of Dallastown. A Prime Time daughter, Druck’s 4-H project heifer also took first-place in the Bred and Owned division. At reserve was Circle B Miss IR, shown by Corby Hendrickson of Winchester, Ind. Another York Countian, Jamie Kohr, won the Chianina Show with her leggy fullblood heifer, Laux mont Lacey J. An Ino daughter, Kohr’s heifer maintains an un blemished show career, logging championship honors at the Northeast Region Chianina Field Day, the York Fair, and the Eastern National Livestock Show. Miss Kohr is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James D. Kohr of York. At the reserve spot was Robyn Davis of Lewistown, Ohio, with her American Purebred Chianina female, HVF Ms Bronze Lady. Both champion and reserve champion Polled Hereford titles went to Maryland exhibitors, with Laura Tessier of Laytonsville, exhibiting the show’s top female, PRLS36 Cherry 757 R. Sired by the celebrated bull. Driver, Tessier’s heifer was also this year’s champion junior heifer at the Eastern National. The reserve champion female was Ridge Sunset Showgirl, exhibited by Michael Cummings of Westminster, Md. Sired by the family’s bull, GS Flagwaver 82M, Showgirl was also named cham pion of the Bred and Owned division. Ohio and Pa. exhibitors shared top honors in the Hereford Show, with a heifer owned by Diane Moody of New Concord, Ohio, taking grand champion laurels. Exhibited by Cheryl Hampton, Moody’s heifer also placed first in the Bred and Owned division. At reserve was Richard Kralj of Meadville, Pa., with his heifer, R.F. Miss Dominette. Both champion and reserve show’s grand champion Angus heifer. Joe Druck’s entry was champion heifer in the Simmental show. Crystal Clutter of Prosperity with her grand champion Charolais heifer. honors in the Shorthorn Show went to the McLaughlin family of Woodsfield, Ohio. Champion female was SH Miss Marjorie 83. Exhibited by Edward McLaughlin, the top heifer is a CU Gator daughter who won her class at the National Junior Shorthorn Show held in Louisville in July. At reserve was lOM’s Pam Victoria, a Clark daughter shown by Patrick McLaughlin.
