HARRISBURG Massive draft
horses trotted into the show ring
Wednesday morning during the
Keystone International Livestock
Exposition in Harrisburg. It was
the first time draft horses have
been part of KILE.
About 100 Belgians, Percherons
and Clydesdales were entered in
this year’s show, which was
organized with the help of Gerald
Allebach of Spring Mills, James
and Dail Corl of State College, and
Lewis and Gail Biddle of
Boalsburg.
Allebach said he and other
Pennsylvania breeders pressed for
the show because they wanted to
attract competition from other
states. Most of the Pennsylvania
breeders have been competing
against each other at the Farm
Show for years.
Allebach said he believes entries
were limited to around 100 this
year because the show date fell
during the Royal Ag Winter Fair in
Toronto, the largest draft horse
show in North America.
Next year, Allebach said, he
hopes the timing of the show will be
better and will attract more
exhibitors.

HARRISBURG - Agriculture
has been a constant, stable force in
the Pennsylvania economy. As an
economic and cultural cor
nerstone, it remains a continuing
source of pride for all its citizens.
In .an effort to emphasize those
qualities, state Agriculture
Secretary Penrose Hallowell has
announced that “Pennsylvania
Agriculture - The Pride of Penn
sylvania” will again serve as the
theme for the 69th annual Farm
Show, January 13-18,1985.
“The theme for Farm Show
recognizes the efforts of our
devoted 59,000\farm families and

tributions make agriculture the
number one industry in Penn
sylvania,” said Hallowed. “Our
agricultural sector generated over
$3O billion in economic activity last
year and provided employment for
one-fifth of the state’s workforce,”
he added.
“Pride in Pennsylvania
agriculture has its roots in the
farmers and business who exhibit
their blue ribbon animals and
equipment at the Farm Show each
year. Visitors to the annual event
are impressed by their hard work,
and share in this celebration of
tradition and heritage,” Hallowed
noted.
