B24—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 3,1984 Three Centre Co. teens win 4-H awards UNIVERSITY PARK - Three Centre County 4-H’ers have been named winners in the 4-H National Awards Program and are eligible to attend National 4-H Congress in Chicago, Nov. 25 to 29. Bret Reyburn, State College, was named state Conservation Award winner. The son of Jerry and Helene Reybum, he is a junior at State College Area High School. He has been a 4-H member for eight years. A member of the Happy Valley 4- H club, he served as president and vice president. He also assisted with club activities and events as a teen leader. Reyburn has completed projects in rocketry and wildlife and par ticipated in the fashion revue and teen leader retreat. He also took part in Achievement Days and Club Congress. Kenneth Peters of Pennsylvania Furnace was named state Agriculture Award winner. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Peters, he is a worker at the Penn State Poultry Research Farm. He has been a 4-H’er for 11 years. A member of the Centre County 4-H club, he served as president and vice president. He also assisted with club activities and events as a teen leader. Peters has completed projects in beef breeding and feeding and took part in the Leader Dog Program and Teen Retreats. He also par ticipated in Capital Days and National Conference. David Houtz of Bellefonte was named state Plant and Soil Science Award winner. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Houtz, he is a diesel mechanic. He has been a 4-H member for 10 years. A member of the Benner Community 4-H club, he served as president and secretary. He also assisted with club activities and events as as teen leader. Houtz has completed projects in vegetable gardening and field crops and took part in District Camp and Interstate Exchange. He also participated in State Days and Capital Days. Carroll L. Howes, associate 4-H youth program director at Penn State, announced the award selection. He said the 4-H’ers were judged on the basis of project work, leadership ability and participation in county and state activities Kim Bradshaw wins national 4-H award UNIVERSITY PARK - Kim Bradshaw of Telford was named state Animal Science nominee in the 1984 4-H National Awards Program. Kim has completed projects in goat, sheep and clothing, and has par ticipated in dairy goat and sheep shows. She also participated in the sewing and embroidery projects and exhibited annually at the 4-H Fair in Montgomery County. Carroll L. Bradshaw was picked from among the more than 145,000 youth who annually take part in the Extension Service educational 4-H program.
