Berks Co. holds 4-H Recognition Night BY ROBIN PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent LEESPORT Berks County 4- H’ers recognized a l d awarded their parents, leader • outstanding members, and friends last week as they held their annual 4-H Recognition Night in the Ag Center. Master of Ceremonies was Kirk Fisher, vice president of Berks County 4-H County Council, who began the evening of awards and entertainment. Kevin Shollenberger, of the Tilden Community Club, received a fifth year gold label pin for lus teen leader project and Christine Rebman and Nannette Coryell, Rehrersburg Adventurers, received sixth year clover stick pins The following 4-H leaders received silver clovers for five years of service: Mrs. James Batz, Rehrersburg Adventurecs; Terry Endy, Tilden Community Club; Mane Switzer, Eastern Berks Dairy; Kathryn Piper, Reading Urban Ministry; Karen Sattazahn, Stouchsburg 4-H; Donna Stump, Western Berks Dairy; Valerie Geesaman and Glen Geesaman, Mohnton 4-H Light Horse; and Christine Morrison, Colebrook Elementary. Gail Malsbury of the Rehrer sburg Adventurers was honored with a gold clover for ten years of John Falter presents Verna Rausch, Windsor Township, with an emerald clover for her 25 years of service to 4-H 1 leadership. Dennis Sattazahn, Stouchburg 4-H received a pearl clover for 15 years of service. Verna Rausch, Windsor Township, received an emerald clover for 25 years of service. The County winners in the National 4-H Awards Program were also honored and included: Mark Price, poultry; Kirk Fisher, horse, achievement; Debbie Price, agriculture, public speaking; Nannette Coryell, leadership, food nutrition; Jamie Batz, food preservation, gardening; Greg Strieker, commodity marketing; James Heffner, personal development; Kevin Shollen berger, citizenship, leadership; Patricia Dreisbach, veterinary science, dairy; Kennianne Rarick, beef; Christine Rebman, home management and environment; Charles Seidel, swine; Marianne Yanos, sheep; and William Lesher, achievement. Three awards were also given for service to the 4-H Development Board. Patricia Dreisbach, Tilden - Northern Berks Dairy 4-H Club and Leon Kirkoff and Jon Fisher, outgoing board members were honored. State 4-H Achievement Days Winners were honored on the following teams; Dairy Judging - Charles Seidel, Todd Miller, William Lesher, and Jim Younker. The “I Dare You” leadership awards were presented to Naomi Herbert and James Heffner. In concluding the awards presentation, Rick Kauffman presented the Berks County Friend of 4-H Award. ' He’s been an in spiration to many people in this community,” Kauffman said as he presented the clover plaque to Rev. Rod Sutliff, Rl, Mohrsville. Sutliff was instrumental in ob taining much of the funding for the recently completed 4-H Com munity Center. “Rod has seen what the 4-H Community Center could mean to 4-H many years ago,” Kauffman stated.
