Simmental Juniors share week with Ag Progress PORT MATILDA - Visitors to Ag Progress this year had only a short drive from Rocksprings to Port Matilda on August 22, for a look at some of the state’s top Sinunental heifers and steers. A crowd numbering more than 100 turned out to watch judge Bill Holloway pick the top represen tatives of the breed at the Pa. Simmental Junior Association FieTd Day hosted by Reed and Bonnie McCormick of Sky Top Farm. Allyson Sheaffer, the exhibitor of the show’s grand champion heifer, found herself in the spotlight as well, as the Carlisle resident was named the Association’s first queen. Following Sheaffer, with the reserve champion heifer was Lon Cash of Centre Hall, who also took first place in junior division showmanship. In steer competition, Christen Weaver of State College took top honors, with York’s Jamie Kohr exhibiting the reserve champion. Kohr wasn’t to be outdone in showmanship, however, placing first in the senior division. Delmarva to hold calf sale FELTON, DE - The Delmarva Beef Cattlemen’s Association will hold a graded feeder calf sale on Saturday, October 20, at Carroll’s Sales Company in Felton, Del. Cost to consignors will be $2 per calf, plus 3 J/ 2 percent of the gross sale price. The association expects more than 350 calves to be entered in the sale, which will take place at 1; 30 p.m. Producers interested in con signing calves may obtain further information and consignment forms by calling University of Delaware extension livestock specialist Dr. Ken Kephart at (302) 856-5250. Deadline for sale entries is October 1.
