With the Holstein show in progress, owners of Ayrshires, Guernseys and Jerseys competed for top honors under the same roof. The grand champion Ayrshire was Rockland Jack’s Velvet, a February, 1976 daughter of Toll Gate Choice Jack owned and exhibited by Laurie Anne Moore of Bear. Velvet was the runaway favorite among Ayrshire entries, placing first among aged cows and taking best udder, as well. This is her fourth year as grand champion at the Delaware show. The Moore family continued their winning ways, garnering reserve grand champion honors also. This winning entry was Rockland H. Virginia, an October, 1981 Del Acres Harvey daughter exhibited by Laurie’s sister, Leslie Jane Moore. A four-year-old named Steve’s Winston Choice Chris was named grand champion Guernsey. Owned by Ethyl May Shorts, Chris was also the show’s senior champion. At reserve grand champion was U of D Jolly Bonnie, shown by the University of Delaware. Bonnie was also the reserve senior champion. Franken Bright Spot Millie, shown by Spring Valley Farm, was named grand champion Jersey. The four-year-old is a daughter of Meadow Lawn Bright Spot. William C. Eliason’s three-year old, Kalmar Soldiers Nora, took reserve honors. The two top winners were also awarded senior champion and reserve honors, respectively.
