Fork full of steaks
Everyone knows that farmers have hearty appetites, but
this is rediculous!
Fortunately for the crowd, at the Pennsylvania Angus
Association's Breeders Show, Ken Walker (left) and Fritz Frey
were planning to share this pitch fork loaded with 16 Angus
steaks.

Reserve grand champion bred
and-owned heifer was BV Elba 393,
another Power Play daughter.
Elba is owned by Cathy Shive of
Seven Valleys.
In bull competition, Dutchman
10336334 was elected grand
champion. An April, 1983 Pine
Drive Big Sky son, Dutchman is
owned by Huntingdon Farm and
Northcote of Alexandria.

Reserve grand champion bull
was Edlyns Sky King 3101, another
Pine Drive son owned by Lee E.
Miller and Ed Rishel of Wood
sboro, Maryland. Sky King was
bred by Ed Rishel.
Eighteen steers were entered in
the four classes of steer com
petition, with Lancaster Countian
Kristin Chupp’s heavyweight entry
named grand champion. Sired by
Fairfield High Guy, Kristin’s steer
was bred by Rally Farm.

Named reserve champion was a
light heavyweight entry owned by
Debra A. Krause of Slatington.
Krause’s steer was sired by Pme
Drive Big Sky and bred by Diane
Krause.
This year’s steer show was a new
event for the Angus Breeders
Show. According to PAA secretary
Chet Hughes, the Association plans
to expand its promotion of
purebred steers, with a calf sale of
purebred steers and heifers ten
tatively scheduled for this fall.
Lancaster County dominated the
judging competition, winning first
place in the ladies’, men’s and
team divisions. First-place in the
ladies division went to Barbara
Weaver of New Holland, with
Quarryville’s Ernest Frey topping
the men’s division. The winning
Lancaster County team was made
up of Fritz Frey, Quarryville, Jan
Waltz, Manheim, Margaret Herr,
Narvon, and alternate Greg
Musser of Elizabethtown.
Junior division judging resulted
in a three-way tie for first place
between Lon Cash, Centre Hall,
Chris Shive, Seven Valleys and
Margaret Herr.
A showmanship contest con
cluded the day’s events, with
Diane Krause of Slatington win
ning senior division honors, and
Fred Weaver of Ephrata topping
the junior division.
Judging this year’s event was
Wayne Strawn of Yorkville,
Illinois.
