Lafferty kept the Dauphin County
dairy princess crown and banner
in the family during ceremonies in
ElizabethviUe over Memorial Day
weekend. April was crowned by
her sister Faith, the 1983-84
Dauphin County dairy princess.
Sharon Lesher, R 1 Lykens, was
named alternate dairy princess.
April is the 17-year-old daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. James Lafferty,
R 1 Lykens. She will be a senior at
Upper Dauphin Area High School
in the fall. Her school activities
include the yearbook staff,
National Honor Society, softball
and school musicals. She has also
received a U.S. Achievement
Academy Art Award. April is also
active in the Upper Dauphin 4-H
Dairy Club, Upper Dauphin Sheep
and Goat Club, and the 4-H Ex
change Club.
Alternate Dairy Princess,
Sharon Lesher, is the 16-year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John
Lesher. She attends Upper

Dauphin Area High School where
she will be a senior this fall. Sharon
has been active in dairy 4-H, 4-H
exchanges and was a teen leader
for a 4-H clown club.
The pageant was the highlight of
an ice cream promotion at
Kocher’s IGA in EUzabethville. A
special treat for those present was
a special version of “Old Mac
nnnpiH HaH 4 Varm” sung by the
Grange leadership
HARRISBURG A leadership
training conference for local
Grange officers and members will
be held June 22-24 at the Juniata
College campus in Huntingdon
County.
More than 300 members from
throughout the state are expected
to convene for a series of
educational workshops to prepare
them for the offices they hold in
their local granges.
Among the workshops planned
for members are sessions on
volunteering, conducting grange
meetings, developing legislative
policy, and maintaining a positive

Dairy Association from New
Cumberland, Pennsylvania.
conference slated
targeted are for offices in the
Grange.
Woodrow Tucker of Rhode
Island, High Priest of Demeter for
the National Grange, will be the
keynote speaker at a banquet on
Saturday night. Tucker heads the
fraternal work of the organization
at the national level and will ad
dress the group on ritualism and
other fraternal aspects of the
grange organization.
Awards will be presented during
the banquet for the State Grange
sewing contest.
While at the college, members
also will enjoy various summer
recreational activities.
