The seasonal incentive fund removed $.20 per hundredweight from the dairy farmers’ uniform price for March, a total of $2,023,442.84. Deductions will continue through Jdne and will be returned in the August through November uniform price calculations. A total of 17,036 dairy farmers supplied the New York-New Jersey Milk Marketing Area with 1,011,721,422 pounds of milk during March 1984. This was a decrease of 0.5 percent (about 5 million pounds) from last year, the first same-month decline in almost two years. The gross value to dairy farmers for milk deliveries was $130,761,530.20. Regulated milk dealers (han dlers) used 399,245,349 pounds of milk for Class 1,39.5 percent of the total. This milk is used for fluid milk products such as homogenized, flavored, low test and skim milks. For March 1984, handlers paid $14.30 per hun dredweight (30.8 cents per quart) for Class I milk compared with $14.87 a year ago. The balance (612,476,073 pounds or 60.5 percent) was used to manufacture Class II products including butter, cheese, ice cream and yogurt. Handlers paid $12.03 per hundredweight for this milk. The uniform price is based on milk containing 3.5 percent but terfat. For March 1984, there was a price differential of 16.3 cents for each one-tenth of one percent that the milk tested above or below the 3.5 percent standard.
