Sixty-two head of strictly polled bulls and females were consigned to the annual event. These cattle represented some of the leading herds in the U.S. and Canada, and buyers from these same areas were present at the show and sale to evaluate the offerings. High selling animals at the sale were: Supreme champion and top selling bull at $lO,OOO - Waukaru T Triton x, a March, 1982 son of Tea for the Tillerman x, and out of Waukaru Rosewood Clpr 043 x. He was consigned by Waukaru Polled Shorthorns, Carl Jordan and Family, Rensselaer, Ind., and purchased by Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Griddle II and Son, of Shamrock C Ranch in Caldwell Tx. Champion and top selling female at $9,800 - Sutherland Bonnie Rose 149 x,from Sutherland Shorthorns, Prospect, Ky. This summer yearling female by Deerpark Improver 2 was bought by the Dale G. Phelps family, Waterloo, la. She sold as bred to the two-time National Champion bull, GM Irish Special. Second top selling female at $6,250 - RPS Rose 82 x, a female from Shelly Pope, Metcalf, 111. She is a spring heifer calf by Green Ridge D’Artanyan B 36 and out of Mill Brook Perfect Lily 78 x. The sale’s 62 lots sold for $125,550, for an average price of $2,025 per head. Bruce Brooks of Springer, Okla., served as auctioneer, and the sale’s manager was Cagwin Cattle Service, Inc., of Virginia, 111. Schwenk, chaplain; and Eric Morton, historian. New York Cowßelles are completing plans to host the Region One meeting of the American National Cowßelles May 2 and 3, at the Sheraton Inn in Syracuse. Emphasis will be on promotion and consumer education as women from 17 states including Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, the Mid- Atlantic states and New England, meet to exchange ideas and to discuss common goals. Eldora Benson of Potsdam, chairman of the Region 1 meeting, said guest speakers will include New York Commissioner of Agriculture and markets, Joseph Gerace, and Frances Owens of Lubbock, Tex., the president-elect of the American National Cowßelles. The two-day program will begin May 2, with registration, a lun cheon, and a tour of a furniture factory. The evening session will be informal with women ex changing ideas on projects con ducted in their states. There will be an auction of items brought by Cowßelles.
