Field day held
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - On
Friday, Richard Horsman had his
120-acre Calvert County farm get a
facelift and new lease on life for a
fraction of what it would have cost
him a year ago.
On Friday, Horsman’s farm was
the site of a soil and water con
servation field day sponsored by
the Calvert Soil Conservation
District. Good farm conservation
practices like stripcropping, grass
waterways, terraces, grade
stabilization and tile drainage
were installed to solve the soil
erosion problems that are robbing
his land of its fertility.
The field day, says Hagner
Mister, U.S. Soil Conservation
Service, was a way to show area
farmers how to reduce soil erosion
and increase productivity while
improving water quality in the
process^
