Soon after opening his doors, Wertz began selling farm tools, taking on a Ford automobile franchise in 1915. Upon the owner’s death in 1932, Sam Warner, Wertz’s son-in-law, acquired the business, taking on the line of DeLaval cream separators during the mid-30’s, and adding an Allis-Chalmers equipment franchise in 1938. By the end of WWII the Ford franchise had been dropped, and Wertz Garage continued strictly as an agricutlural dealership until ROW CROP PLANTERS. Plant one bulbeye after another, limply. 1950‘, when new facilities were constructed and the Westinghouse line of home appliances was added. Upon the untimely death of the owner in 1966, Warner’s son-in-law, Fred Dickmyer, teamed with his father Hiram Dickmyer as the firm’s new owners. Under its new ownership, Wertz Garage, Inc., continued its distinguished A-C service career, winning the company’s Circle of Honor Award in 1981 for combine sales, and again in 1982 for tractor sales. Key employees among the company’s staff of 13 include Sales Representative Ed Price, Service Manager Richard Hossler, Parts Manager Cecilia Bortner, and Office Manager Peggy Lee Bankert.
