B22—Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, February 11,1984 Grassland FFA to mark 25th year NEW HOLLAND - On Friday, March 9, the 25th annual Parent- Member Banquet of the Grassland FFA Chapter will be held in the Blue Ball and New Holland Fire Halls with a program immediately following in the auditorium of the Garden Spot High School. A special commemorative program is being planned to mark this event. All former members of the Grassland FFA, which was organized in September of 1959, when the new Garden Spot High School was opened in New Holland, are invited to attend. Over the past twenty-five years the chapter has FFA creed winners ELVERSON - Recently, the Twin Valley FFA held its creed speaking contest. The contest is open to first year members in 9th and 10th grade only. The con testants must recite the FFA creed by memory using correct em phasis on certain words. The winners will move on to the ' county contest, in which con testants must again recite the creed before 3 judges. They are judged on appearance, ability to answer oral questions, and the way they say the creed. The oral questions are based on the content of the creed. Members from Twin Valley placing in the contest are Lori Ortiz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Winn, Elverson, first and will receive an FFA jacket. Lori will not be able to, go on to county because she is in 11th grade. Sam Petersheim, of Elverson, placed second. Ann Kline daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kline, of Birdsboro, placed third. Both will move on to the county contest. Twin Valley plans FFA Week ELVERSON - The Twin Valley FFA Chapter, along with over 8,300 other FFA chapters across the nation, will celebrate National FFA Week, Feb. 18-25. During this week the Twin Valley FFA. is planning to conduct many ac tivities in recognition of this years theme, “Keeping America On The Grow.” Agriculture Education and FFA place an emphasis on lear ning by doing. This year, the Twin Valley chapter is planning to do radio programs for WCOJ, which lets people know the different op portunities that* Vocational Agriculture and the FFA offers Members are also going to be holding an open house. Each year all the chapter members and their parents gather to honor each member with special awards for their accomplishments throughout the past year. Among awards to be given are different foundation awards ranging from sheep production, to elec trification, to flower arranging. The Keystone Farmers will receive a trophy.
