The team made up of Deanna Otto, Mechanicsburg; Brenda Wert, Carlisle; Andrea Gutshall, Carlisle, and Dede King, Mechanicsburg, placed 14th in the National 4-H Horticulture Judging and Identification Contest. The team members identified 100 flowers, ornamentals, vegetables, and fruits and nuts. Also, they judged eight classes consisting of two classes of flower, two classes of ornamentals, two classes of vegetables, and two classes of fruits and nuts. They were quizzed on management and culture practices of flowers, ornamentals, vegetables, and fruits and nuts. Individually, Brenda Wert placed second and Deanna Otto placed sixth in the judging segment of the contest. The team was coached by Donna Duncan, Carlisle. 4-H Rower Teem Represents Pe. Parade Results Announced LEBANON The Cedar Crest FFA float entered seven parades U t v<fKTy: Lancaster Farming, Saturday, December 17,1983—821 Corn Contest Held LEBANON - The Cedar Crest FFA participated in the FFA County Corn Contest held recently at Elco High School Vo-Ag room. The top placings were; Yield— Ist - Tim Elliott (Ann ville-Cleona); 2nd - Brenda Peiffer (Cedar Crest). Quality— Ist - Brenda Peiffer (Cedar Crest); 2nd - Tim Elliott (Annville-Cleona). The judge for the contest was Donald Bollinger, a local corn grower. When Mr. Bollinger judged the 10 ears of corn from each entry, he was looking for the following characteristics: bright yellow color, uniformity of ears, straight rows, large size, freedom from mold, other marks, and full ears. After the contest was over, refreshments were served and the contestnas met with Judge Bollinger to discuss corn growing practices. Cedar Crest Announced LEESPORT FFA members from Lebanon, Berks, and Schuylkill counties recently participated in the Area FFA Contests at Berks County Ag. Center. Some of the contests in cluded dairy judging, horse judging, meats contest, dairy foods contest, and ag mechanics. The Cedar Crest placings were: Horse Judging l 37 contestants - Ist - Ann Lansberry; 3rd - Brenda Miller. The team took first place. Dairy Foods - 40 contestants - Ist - Dan Groff; 2nd - Dave Groff. The team took first place. Meats Contest - 30 contestants - 2nd.-Gale Hitz. The top three winners in each category from Lebanon County during the float season. The theme of the float was changed several times for various parades. Themes included: The Haunted Graveyard, Jack Sprat’s Wedding, and 0 Christmas Tree. Parades and placings received are as follows; Lebanon Jaycee Halloween Parade - Ist; Schaef ferstown Parade - Ist; Jonestown Parade - 2nd; Palmyra Jaycee Parade - 2nd; Fredericksburg Parade - 3rd; Lebanon Holiday Parade - 3rd; Hershey Parade - 4th. Most of the chapter members helped in the construction of the float and the performances during the parades. A pizza party is being planned for all those who helped in this endeavor. Results
