Hall tops Lycoming DHIA MONTOURSVILLE For the tenth year in a row, Eugene W Hall, Muncy has won the Lycoming County Dairy Herd im provement Association award for the highest herd average in the county. His 64 Holstems averaged 818 pounds butterfat and 20,585 pounds milk per cow in the past testing year. The award was presented at the 58th Annual Meeting of the Association, held Nov 15 at the Bethel United Methodist Church, Montoursville. The highest-producing cows in the county were, milk, "B -141" owned by Marshall Brothers, Roaring Branch, producing 31,314 lbs. of milk; and for butterfat, "Olive" also owned by Marshall Brothers, producing 1,639 lbs of fat. Rodger & Owen Swartz, Muncy R 2, won the award for the greatest herd increase in butterfat in the county. His 59 Holstems averaged 574 pounds fat, an increase of 130 lbs over the previous year. The herd averaged 15,335 lbs. milk per cow. Other county herds averaging 600 pounds of fat or better were recognized, as follows. The first figure represents fat production, the second milk production, and the last is the average number of cows in the herd.
