STOP CO Frederick, Md. 301-663-3185 Wool Contest Scheduled COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Valuable prizes, plus an expense paid trip to Phoenix, Ariz., and the chance to compete for coUege scholarships await top winners in the second annual statewide Make It With Wool contest being coor dinated by the University of Maryland’s Cooperative Extension Service. The event is set for Saturday, Jan 7, at the Montgomery County fairground in Gaithersburg. It will run from 1 to 4 p.m. in the dining hall near the main gate. Entry deadline is Dec. 7. All persons with an interest in sewing wool garments are invited to compete. Entries must have been completed by the contestant since Jan 1,1983. Contest garments must be made from loomed, knitted or felted fabric or yarn of not less than 80 percent wool and not more than 40 percent synthetic fiber. The garments may be sewn, hand-knit or crocheted; but they must fit one of the contest categories, as follows: Pre-teens (ages 10-13) may enter jumpers, skirts, pants, vests, ponchos, sweaters or shirts. Juniors (ages 14-16), senior youth (ages 17-24) and adults (over 24) may enter only dresses, coats or suits (with pants or skirt). Categories will be determined by each contestant’s age on Dec. 31. Fabric and sewing equipment will be awarded as prizes to the top three contestants in each age category. Other entrants wUI receive participation prizes. The two junior and senior youth champions will each be eligible to advance to national competition sponsored by the American Sheep Producers Council, Inc., and the women’s auxiliary of the National Wool Growers Association. That event is scheduled Jan. 17-20 at Phoenix, Ariz. To obtain contest rules and an entry form, contact the 4-H or home economics office of the Cooperative Extension Service in any Maryland county or in Baltimore city. Completed entry forms must be submitted before Dec. 7 to either of the state contest co-chairman. They are Mrs. Jo Anne D. Leatherman, Extension 4-H and youth agent, 520 N.
