Pa. approves 12 ag research projects HARRISBURG - A total of 12 agricultural research projects, addressing topics ranging from shipping fever to soil nutrient management, have been ear marked for funding during the 1983-84 fiscal year, according to State Agriculture Secretary Penrose Hallowell. The 10-member Pennsylvania Agricultural Research Committee, chaired by the secretary, has approved project funding totaling $257,235. Hallowell noted that funding for five on-going projects, totaling $126,110, was approved during a meeting held in April. Funding for the projects, from horse and harness racing revenues in the past, came from a special agricultural research line item in this year’s general fund budget. “Research conducted by specialists in these areas is essential to the continued growth and prosperity of Pennsylvania agriculture,” said Hallowell, in dicating that work on the projects would be carried out at Penn State, the University of Pennsylvania and Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture.
